Your favorite vegetable recipes of 2013 from A Veggie Venture, one per month, all in one handy spot for easy reference. Yes, this year I'm featuring
your favorite recipes, the vegetable recipes which you and other readers and visitors come back to again and again, all year long.
It's that time of year, the week when we food bloggers look back over a year's worth of recipes and pick our favorites! I love-love-love this process! It really helps us hone our recipe collections, highlighting the best of the already very good, especially for sites like A Veggie Venture and my food column
Kitchen Parade which by design, already post only really good recipes, the ones that work, the ones that are special or especially useful. (Here's the
2013 favorite recipes from Kitchen Parade too.)
But I also love all the many sources of "best of the year" lists for movies, books, gadgets, etc. So this year, I'm collecting "best of the year" lists on Pinterest.
Follow me there and you'll see all the new entries over the next few days on this board,
Best of the Year Lists & Favorites. Plus for your convenience, this year I've created a
Best Recipes of 2013 for both A Veggie Venture and Kitchen Parade – extra-easy for re-pinning!
So okay, here you go, your favorite recipes for 2013. But what do you think, has the "crowd sourcing" process selected your own favorites? Or has it completely missed one you loved? Let everyone know in the comments!
FIRST, MORE SPECIAL, USEFUL & INFORMATIVE "STUFF"
But before we get to your favorite vegetable recipes, I'd like to highlight a few posts that are more than "just another recipe". Who'd like more of these in 2014? I would!

TWO CANS AND TEN MINUTES? YOU'VE GOT SOUP!
How many of us grew up on cans of Campbell's tomato soup? I know I did, my father even perfected his "doctored" tomato soup and during the years he was in charge of breakfast, served it with a hamburger patty every other Friday. Here's a way to make tomato soup with "real food" and still put it on the table in ten minutes.

YOUR FAVORITE RECIPE OF THE YEAR!
Your most-viewed recipe of the year hits the right notes: the convenience of a slow cooker; the family-friendly familiarity of sloppy joes; healthy real food; an easy vegan choice for Meatless Mondays. Many thanks to Slow Cooker from Scratch for featuring this recipe!

CAULIFLOWER, THE CHAMELEON VEGETABLE
We love cauliflower for itself, of course, but isn't it cool how cauliflower so easily converts into low-calorie, low-carb versions of some of our favorite foods? Like hummus!

April:
COOK EGGS IN A COFFEE CUP? IN THE MICROWAVE? YES YOU CAN!
Readers love practical recipes, the ones to make again and again, even every day. This is oen of those versatile recipes, just master a quick technique and then change it up to suit your mood and the day. This was a special recipe for my nephew who had just moved out on his own! Statistical trivia: this recipe had more mobile views than any other recipe in 2013. I wonder why. :-)

USE SALT TO WILT CABBAGE, THEN ADD VEGGIES
This is the kind of salad you can make every few days. Start by wilting cabbage with salt, then add and subtract vegetables as you see fit. Healthy, of course!

MASTER RECIPES: One Recipe, Many Variations
I'm slowly collecting what I call "master" recipes, ways to take the "start" of a recipe but use whatever vegetables that appeal or (yes, this happens, it's real life, after all) need using up. This vegetable quiche uses both greens and garden vegetables.
Vegetarian:

August:
SUMMER IN BOWL, CUCUMBERS & TOMATOES
It’s a quick mix of cucumber and tomato plus a little radish for bite and crunch. Salsa? Salad? Call it what you like, it's fresh and good!

EXPERIMENTING WITH ASIAN GREENS
A fast make-ahead and easy-to-carry salad using the healthy but "accessible" (aka "easy to enjoy") Asian green called bok choy (or some times pak-choi or Chinese cabbage).

"COOK" WITH LEMON JUICE? YES!
Raw Brussels sprouts shaved so thin they easily "cook" (if you will) in a lemon vinaigrette and then tossed with grated romano for a certain lovely "sourness" and pine nuts for a touch of "crunch".
Vegetarian:
Raw Brussels Sprouts Salad |
November:
LOVE P-DUB? LOVE HER THANKSGIVING CASSEROLE
A hearty casserole, layers of nutty wild rice and crisp broccoli held together with a gorgeous Mushroom Cream Sauce that's packed with vegetables, including the broccoli stalks. No cheese!

SO THAT'S IT!
