Bell Pepper Recipes ♥ Alphabet of Vegetables
THE BASICS
Like chillis or hot peppers, sweet peppers belong to the capsicum family. Both are native to tropical areas of the Western Hemisphere and were brought to Europe by Christopher Columbus where they found their way into Spanish cuisine. Sweet peppers can be solid or variegated in color ranging from pale to dark green, from yellow to orange to red, and from purple to brown to black. The juicy flesh can be thick or thin and the flavors range from bland to sweet to bittersweet. Best known are bell peppers, named for their bell-like shape and noted for mild, sweet flavor and crisp, juicy flesh.
