Dear Anonymous: THIS Is Why We Blog

So it's been kind of a hard week. And then this note arrived from Anonymous and Nan. It drew tears, then gratitude, then resolve.
My grandmother who is 98 yrs old and still makes a small breakfast for herself now and then is an avid reader of the food blogs, when she came across yours and the coleslaw recipe she marveled at the fact that some of your readers had never heard of boiled dressing. That is what we had when young and still have at my house.

Nan also says the reason they soaked the cabbage in cold water was to "clean it of any critters that might have set up housekeeping in there," at least that was her reason 'cause she did the same thing.

We both enjoy your blog and the care you take with your recipes & comments. Thank you!

Many thanks, Anonymous and Nan. You just don't know the difference you've made, this day. Blessings many, to you both.

  2. That's great!! I am glad to see that others appreciate you like I do. And I hope next week will be better.

(Funny thing is, I came here just having deleted a snarky comment left anonymously about a recipe way back in the archives on my blog. Some people like to spread joy and others like to criticize.)

  5. My nan can't beleive you actually
acknowledged our little note to you!She is thrilled beyond words! She phoned all her pals & grandkids and made sure they all knew about "that lovely lady blogger in the USA who writes so beautifully about veggies". I'm sure you will have a few more Canadian readers coming to your blog. Thank you so much for making nan's day.

  6. Hi again, Anonymous!

Well then that's TWO (three, including yourself?!) who're thrilled! And TWO who told all her pals!! Tell Nan that "that veggie lady" is half Canadian and grew up 50 yards from the border. So the more Canadians ... the merrier! Just wait til I tell my Auntie Gloria ... from Winnipeg. ;-D

  8. Was looking for Sophia Loren's low cal veg soup and came upon your blog. Your recipes for cabbage soups are intriguing. I'm a 74 yr old retied chemist who does much of the cooking. I'm trying to lose weight to lower my cholesterol. Thanks for your easy access to great recipes.
